Large print Colorku: Sudoku with shapes
Colorku follows the rules of Sudoku exactly, but replaces the numbers with bold coloured shapes. The 9 by 9 grid uses nine shapes: a circle, a square, a triangle, a diamond, a star, a plus, a heart, a hexagon and a ring. The 6 by 6 grid uses the first six. Every row, every column and every box must hold each shape once. If you can solve a Sudoku, you can solve a Colorku, and many people find shapes a friendly change from reading numbers.
Colour is never the only clue. Each shape is drawn with a heavy dark outline, and the shapes differ in form, so they can be told apart even if you cannot tell the colours apart, in all three themes. Each key on the pad also shows a small number, and the shapes are drawn big enough to see clearly. You can enlarge the whole page with the text size buttons.
Two sizes, three levels
The 9 by 9 grid is the full-size puzzle. The 6 by 6 grid has boxes two squares tall and three wide, and is a gentler place to begin. Each size comes in three levels. Easy and Medium can always be finished by spotting the one square where a shape fits, or the one shape a square can hold. Hard needs a little more, such as a naked pair. The free Colorku each day is the 9 by 9 Easy, and members will be able to play both sizes at every level.
Hints, undo and saving
If you are stuck, press Hint. The first press highlights a row, column or box where a move is waiting, and a second press fills the shape in. Hints only change the stars you earn: three stars for none, two for one or two, and one for three or more. The time you take never lowers your stars, the timer counts up rather than down, and Zen Mode hides it.
Undo is always one press away, and nothing needs dragging. Your progress is saved on your own device after every move. Free players keep it there; members will be able to play unlimited puzzles every day, and their scores and history on every device. To print a puzzle, press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac): the buttons drop away and the grid prints large. If you prefer numbers, try large print Sudoku.
