About this set

Christmas is a good season for a pencil and a quiet chair, whether you are waiting for the family to arrive or sitting with a cup of cocoa after they have gone. This set has ten word searches, each with an eight by eight grid of very large letters and six words to find. Words such as SLEIGH, WREATH, TINSEL, CAROL, RIBBON and MANGER come up across the set, along with the cookies, the lights and the cold weather outside.

Everything is kept simple on purpose. Words read left to right or top to bottom only, so nobody has to hunt for a word spelled backwards or on a diagonal. The grid letters are 36 point, the word list is 24 point, and each word has a box to tick when it is found. Each of the ten puzzles has its own mix of words, so a pile of them can go round a whole room without two people holding the same page.

The full PDF ends with an Answers section in which the hidden words are shaded, and a second file has the puzzles alone, which is handy for a card table, a care home activity or a gift basket. The words are our own list, kept friendly and traditional, with nothing that depends on a particular brand or film.

What is in the download

  • 10 puzzles, one on each page, each with six words to find in a grid of very large letters.
  • An Answers section of 3 pages at the end of the full PDF, with the hidden words shaded.
  • A second PDF with the puzzles only, for handing out.
  1. Open the PDF (or save it) and choose Print. The pages are US Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches.
  2. On A4 paper, or if a margin is cut off, choose “Fit to page” (or “Fit”). Otherwise choose “Actual size” or 100 percent, which keeps the type at its full large size.
  3. Choose black and white or grayscale. The puzzles need no color, and it saves ink.
  4. Print one page per sheet. “Multiple pages per sheet” makes the letters small again.
  5. To print only the puzzles, print the puzzles-only file, or in the full file print just the pages before the section called Answers.

Frequently asked questions

Is the christmas word search printable really free?
Yes. Download it, print it and share it for personal or group use at no cost, with no account and no email address needed. Today’s Easy puzzle of every kind is also free to play on screen.
Are the answers included?
The full PDF has all 10 puzzles first and then a section titled Answers, 3 pages long, so the full file is 13 pages. If you would rather not print the answers, use the puzzles-only file.
Can I print these for a class, club or care home?
Yes. Personal use and group use are both free, as long as you keep the credit line “Puzzles from Senior Puzzles Daily (seniorpuzzlesdaily.com)” on what you share. Please do not sell the puzzles or republish them as your own.
Do the words run backwards or on a slant?
No. This is the Easy level, so every word reads left to right or top to bottom, never backwards and never diagonally. Each word appears in its grid exactly once.
How big is the print?
The grid letters are 36 point and the word list is 24 point, in a grid 8 x 8 squares that fills the page. On A4 paper, print with “Fit to page”.

These puzzles are original to Senior Puzzles Daily. The word lists are our own, every crossword clue was written for this site, and Cryptogram quotations are from works published in 1930 or earlier, traditional proverbs, or short sayings written for this site.

Printing for yourself or for a group is free, with a credit line. You may print as many copies as you need for your family, class, club, senior center or care home, and hand them out or share the file with the people you work with. Please keep the credit line on what you share:
