About this set

This set is made for the days around Thanksgiving, when there is a pot to watch, guests on the way and a few quiet minutes to fill. Each of the ten pages is a word search with a big eight by eight grid and six words to find, among them TURKEY, GRAVY, PECAN, MAPLE, GOURD and PRAYER. Each page has its own mix of words, so you can hand a fresh one to each person at the table or keep a stack for the whole week.

The words are plain and friendly: the foods that sit on the table, the autumn fields they come from, and the family, thanks and sharing that bring everyone together. Words only run left to right or top to bottom, never backwards and never on a slant, which makes this the gentlest level. The letters are 36 point and the word list is 24 point, with a box beside each word to tick off, so a page can be done with a pencil and reading glasses, or without them.

The last three pages of the full PDF are the answers, with every hidden word shaded. If you are handing the pages out and do not want anyone to peek, choose the puzzles-only file instead. The word list for this set was written for this site and is not copied from any other puzzle.

How to print these puzzles

Open the PDF (or save it) and choose Print. The pages are US Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches.
On A4 paper, or if a margin is cut off, choose “Fit to page” (or “Fit”). Otherwise choose “Actual size” or 100 percent, which keeps the type at its full large size.
Choose black and white or grayscale. The puzzles need no color, and it saves ink.
Print one page per sheet. “Multiple pages per sheet” makes the letters small again.
To print only the puzzles, print the puzzles-only file, or in the full file print just the pages before the section called Answers.
