About this set

This is the first ten puzzles of the Easy Nostalgia and Heritage word search from the play side of the site, laid out for the printer. The words are things from days gone by that most of us can still picture: SLEIGH, SALOON, GAZEBO, BONNET, CRAYON, APRON, STAMP, RECORD, PICNIC, POLKA, DEPOT, ARCADE and BUGGY, together with the SWING, the PIANO and the Sunday SUPPER.

Each page is a word search with an eight by eight grid and six words in a list. At the Easy level words run only left to right or top to bottom. The letters are 36 point, the list is 24 point, and a box beside each word lets you tick it off. The ten pages each have a different mix of words, so they are good for taking turns or for passing round a table.

The Answers section at the end of the full PDF shows each grid with the hidden words shaded. If you like these, the same puzzles and many more can be played on screen with big buttons and gentle hints; Easy is free every day. A puzzles-only version is also available, which leaves the answers off the pages so nothing is given away.

What is in the download

  • 10 puzzles, one on each page, each with six words to find in a grid of very large letters.
  • An Answers section of 3 pages at the end of the full PDF, with the hidden words shaded.
  • A second PDF with the puzzles only, for handing out.
  1. Open the PDF (or save it) and choose Print. The pages are US Letter, 8.5 by 11 inches.
  2. On A4 paper, or if a margin is cut off, choose “Fit to page” (or “Fit”). Otherwise choose “Actual size” or 100 percent, which keeps the type at its full large size.
  3. Choose black and white or grayscale. The puzzles need no color, and it saves ink.
  4. Print one page per sheet. “Multiple pages per sheet” makes the letters small again.
  5. To print only the puzzles, print the puzzles-only file, or in the full file print just the pages before the section called Answers.

Frequently asked questions

Is the nostalgia and heritage word search printable really free?
Yes. Download it, print it and share it for personal or group use at no cost, with no account and no email address needed. Today’s Easy puzzle of every kind is also free to play on screen.
Are the answers included?
The full PDF has all 10 puzzles first and then a section titled Answers, 3 pages long, so the full file is 13 pages. If you would rather not print the answers, use the puzzles-only file.
Can I print these for a class, club or care home?
Yes. Personal use and group use are both free, as long as you keep the credit line “Puzzles from Senior Puzzles Daily (seniorpuzzlesdaily.com)” on what you share. Please do not sell the puzzles or republish them as your own.
Do the words run backwards or on a slant?
No. This is the Easy level, so every word reads left to right or top to bottom, never backwards and never diagonally. Each word appears in its grid exactly once.
How big is the print?
The grid letters are 36 point and the word list is 24 point, in a grid 8 x 8 squares that fills the page. On A4 paper, print with “Fit to page”.

These puzzles are original to Senior Puzzles Daily. The word lists are our own, every crossword clue was written for this site, and Cryptogram quotations are from works published in 1930 or earlier, traditional proverbs, or short sayings written for this site.

Printing for yourself or for a group is free, with a credit line. You may print as many copies as you need for your family, class, club, senior center or care home, and hand them out or share the file with the people you work with. Please keep the credit line on what you share:
